ROCHESTER — The Austin baseball team played well but it couldn’t put on the finishing touches in a 4-3 loss at Rochester Mayo (7-5 overall, 6-4 Big Nine) Thursday.

The Packers (4-10 overall, 3-9 Big Nine) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third as Marcus Stoulil belted his first career homer over the left field fence. But Mayo tied the game in the bottom of the third and it took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Justin Aldrich grounded a single up the middle to score a run.

The Packers had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the sixth but couldn’t score.

“The defense played well and Jacob Kempen pitched a nice game,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “But we needed to put one across and we just couldn’t get that clutch hit.”

Steve Serratore hit a two-run homer to put the Spartans up 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
