A Blooming Prairie woman pleaded not guilty Thursday to two felony drug charges for allegedly flushing methamphetamine and marijuana down the toilet minutes after receiving it in the mail.

Cheryl Anne Langan, 54, has been charged with fifth-degree drug possession and possessing meth paraphernalia in the home of a child. She is due in court for a jury trial June 20.

According to court documents, the United States Postal Service Inspection Service intercepted a package on Jan. 25. The package contained 2 grams of meth and 1 gram of marijuana and was addressed to Langan’s residence in rural Blooming Prairie.

Austin police coordinated with the postal inspector to deliver the package and then serve a search warrant.

When police arrived at the home, another resident told them the package was not for Langan, but for someone else who lives there who receives regular shipments of marijuana from someone in Washington state. The court complaint states that the resident seemed “genuinely surprised” and upset when the police mentioned the meth in the package.

As the conversation went on, Langan continued to deny that any drugs would be found in her house. But when police searched the home, they found 0.7 grams of meth in a tea cup in a hutch, which Langan said was “very old.” Langan then told police she flushed the meth and marijuana immediately after opening the package because she didn’t want it in her home, according to the court complaint.

Two other residents confirmed that Langan went to the bathroom as law enforcement knocked on the door.
