Lyle students to perform hits, new tunes
Ready for an eclectic blend of music, dance, Broadway tunes and original compositions? Lyle Public School students are.
The Lyle seventh- through 12th-grade Broadway Pops Music Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17. Everyone has a roll, from choir performances such as “Angel of Music” from “Phantom of the Opera” to “New Girl in Town” from “Hairspray.”

“We’re very excited,” Lyle Music Teacher Rebecca Ogilvie said. “The kids have worked very hard. They’re doing a very good job.”
In addition, the seventh- through 12th-grade band will perform several pieces including compositions from “Star Wars,” “The Incredibles” and more.
The biggest change to the annual affair is the “Evolution of Dance,” where seventh-graders will showcase dance styles from 1923 to 2012.
“We never really expected this,” said Lyle student Megan Andrews.
Seventh-graders will bust a variety of moves, including the Macarena, the Electric Shuffle, the Cha Cha, the Twist and more. In addition, several seventh-graders will be joined by older students to dance to Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger.”
“It’s nice to have a teacher who’s willing to teach us dance and not just choir,” said Lyle student Alexa Ferguson.
Ogilvie will also perform “Nothing,” an original composition by Lyle seventh-grader Emma Retterath.
The performance starts at 7 p.m. May 17. Year-end awards and letters will be handed out following the performance and families are invited for a reception in the park afterward.
