Bill Sweetser, 67, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at his home.

William Lee “Bill” Sweetser was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Austin, Minn., to Charles and Ione (Erie) Sweetser. He attended grade school in the country schools in Bennington Township and attended High School in Grand Meadow, Minn., graduating in 1962. While in high school, Bill was active in wrestling and high school speech contests, reciting the Gettysburg Address for the Grand Meadow Memorial Day Program. After his graduation he started farming with his parents. Bill continued farming until the time of his death.

Bill wrote the article “Sweetser’s Small Farmer Talk” which ran in the local newspapers. He was a member of Toast Masters and served as chairman of the Bennington Township Board. He also served as chairman for the Rural Fire Association for Bennington Township. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and his neighbors.

He is survived by one brother, Ken Sweetser of Austin; two sisters, Mary Sweetser of Rochester, Minn., and Rose Holmen (special friend Scott Anderson) of Austin; a niece and nephew both of Austin, Susan Tischer and Sam Sweetser.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, in 1993 and his mother, Ione, in 1997.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Sweetser will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ann Siverling officiating. Burial will be in the LeRoy Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 13, 2012, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and one hour prior to the service at the church.
