Jennie-O Turkey Store, a Hormel Foods Corp. subsidiary, is recalling about 54,960 pounds of frozen raw turkey burger that are believed to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall Friday after 12 people were diagnosed with an illness caused by Salmonella.
Since December, people in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Washington, and Wisconsin who also have been diagnosed with Salmonella Hadar infection.
An FSIS investigation linked the illnesses with Jennie-O Turkey Burgers and all 12 people reported eating the products before becoming sick.
Hormel is recalling 4-pound boxes Jennie-O’s “All Natural Turkey Burgers with Seasonings Lean White Meat.” The recalled burgers have a use by date of Dec. 23, 2011, and include identifying codes of “32710” through “32780.” The boxes contain a doze individually wrapped burgers.
According to a Hormel press release, other products could also be recalled.
