Lyle Legion to host ‘Cruise for Cancer’

The annual Lyle Area Cancer Auction volunteers don’t raise record sums of money for cancer research by rolling out of bed.

They work at it, holding several fundraisers throughout the year.

The next one occurs Saturday, June 6, when the fourth annual Halfway to January Cancer Bash will be held.

North Iowa and southern Minnesota volunteers have raised more than $1 million for cancer research in the 30-year history of the events at the Lyle American Legion Post.

The money is donated to the 5th District Minnesota Eagles Cancer Telethon broadcast over KTTC Channel 10 from the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester each January.

The 5th District Minnesota Eagles shares the money raised with the Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota Children’s Cancer Research Hospital and Hormel Institute in Austin.

All proceeds from the June 6 fundraiser will be turned over to the 2010 Lyle Area Cancer Auction.
