“Austin’s Hotels
To the traveling public first class hotels are of paramount importance. In this regard Austin is well supplied.
The Fox Hotel, corner of Water [editor’s note: now 4th Ave] and Main streets is the oldest hotel in the city and has kept pace with an increasing business with additions and facilities for the comfort of its patrons. The rates are reasonable at $1.50 to $2. Austin’s wonderful water supply from Crystal Springs is available in every room.
Hotel Austin (formerly the Elk), corner of Bridge and Chatham streets has been entirely remodeled: has 60 well ventilated rooms at $1.25 and $1.50, and with bath at $1.75 to $2. They also operate a fine Cafe in connection, as well as club rooms and private rooms for dinner parties.
The Union, Grand and Harrington Hotels are also well equipped to serve the traveling public. Guests will always get the best of service and courteous treatment at these hotels.
Austin is also well supplied with Restaurants and Cafes. Among the more prominent are the Colonial Good Food, Austin Candy Co., Canton Cafe, Sweet Shop, Quality Cafe, Minute Lunch and many other places where you can get well cooked food in a full meal or lunch, as you desire.
Make it a point when traveling through to make Austin a stop-over point in your journey. You will find excellent accommodations as well as the best of entertainment at the Paramount or State Theatres at popular prices.”
