Gary and Elaine Froiland of Stewartville, Minn. are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on April 12.
Gary is the son of Kermit and LaVonne Froiland and was raised on a farm northwest of Oakland, Minn. Elaine is the daughter of Don and Corrine Huisman from Parkersburg, Iowa. On the day of their marriage in 1986, they left town in Gary’s 1930 Model A Ford, and before leaving town had a police escort with lights and siren, as Elaine’s dad was a policeman in Parkersburg at the time. Gary conducted Children’s Church and worked with Joe Matt at Crane Community Chapel in Austin for 16 years. Elaine and Gary had two children, Joshua and Jessica.
For 15 years, the Froilands had their own Bluegrass band, with Gary on Banjo, Elaine on the upright bass, Joshua on the fiddle, and Jessica on the guitar. They played for such things as the Miss Minnesota Pageant, the Mall of America, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo., and did an 11-concert tour in Japan at the close of their family band during Christmas 2008.
The Froiland children are having an open house party for their parents from 2 to 4 p.m. April 10 at the Miracle Lodge at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, five miles west of Stewartville on County Road 6. All are invited. No gifts please.
