A.L. man sentenced to prison for assault

A 30-year-old Albert Lea man was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of felony domestic assault.

Jason Lee Beloate was charged in Mower County Court with first-degree criminal damage to property, along with felony domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. All but the domestic assault charge were dropped when he entered into a plea agreement.

According to a court complaint, Beloate went to a woman’s house on Jan. 25, where he was expected, but when the woman opened the door he pushed his way inside and started yelling at her.

The woman told police she was afraid so she tried to call 911. Beloate allegedly grabbed her arm, threw her aside and took the phone. He then left the apartment and smashed the phone on the concrete, court documents state.

The court complaint said Beloate got into his vehicle and accelerated through the closed garage door and into the woman’s van, yelling, “Take that!”

When police arrived, half of the garage door was lying on the ground and the woman’s van had been pushed into the front garage wall. Total damages appeared to be more than $1,000.

Beloate was convicted of terroristic threats and domestic assault in 2008. He will receive credit toward his prison sentence for time served since Jan. 25.
