Elizabeth Ann Wood, 83

Elizabeth A. Wood, 83, of Austin died Tuesday April 5, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, after a long illness.

Elizabeth was born June 20, 1927, at Minneapolis, the daughter of Sebastian and Alice (Dinkel) Helmbrecht. She graduated from the Long Prairie High School and worked as a travel agent with the Greyhound Bus Depot in Minneapolis. She married Roy E. Wood on July 21, 1952, in Minneapolis and moved to Austin. Elizabeth worked as a travel agent with the First National Travel Agency until opening Austin Travel with her partner Sue Sween. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, making several trips to Europe and finding her family’s home farm in Germany. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved spending time with her family and cared for her beloved husband following his stroke. She was preceded in death by Roy in 1997.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Roy and Kristin Wood of Big Lake, Minn.; Susan and Gary Browne of Ramsey, Minn.; Thomas Wood of Woodbury, Minn.; Mary and Dr. Robert Swenson of Miller, S.D.; grandchildren, Lindy and Molly Browne, Megan and Alec Wood, Kate, Sarah and Daniel Swenson, Rhiannon Keith and daughter Madison, David Terrell.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday April 9, 2011, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Michael Olmsted officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary for one hour before the service on Saturday. There will be no reviewal.
