One of several Austin youngsters who collaborated in a firearms burglary in early April changed his plea to guilty Thursday in Mower County Court.

Jayson Christopher Pomsyda, 18, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, a felony. Two other felony charges, first-degree burglary of dangerous weapons and theft, were dismissed.

Pomsyda admitted that he was involved with two juveniles, who scouted a northwest Austin home on several occasions in attempt to steal a safe and weapons. Police interviewed the juveniles allegedly involved in the case, who both state that they broke in through a window and discovered that Pomsyda and and another man, Shane Douglas Postema, 22, of Tahlequa, Okla., were already inside and trying to break into a gun safe. The court complaint adds that the juveniles left with a smaller safe.

Postema recently pleaded not guilty.

The group allegedly collaborated in the burglary as they knew the owner of the home had a safe full of guns and knives and was on vacation at the time.

One Austin man discovered info about the burglary, found some of the weapons and turned them into authorities. Authorities later found several other weapons when those allegedly involved admitted to stashing them in the woods.

Pomsyda was recently convicted of fifth-degree assault and sentenced to one year of probation and fined $300. His sentencing in this case has yet to be scheduled. A review of Postema’s criminal record shows convictions in four other states, the complaint adds, among several failure to appear in court charges, as well. He is scheduled for a June 8 pretiral.
