Janice Morstad, 78, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Janice Muriel Morstad, age 78, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be at Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Janice died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Janice Muriel Morstad was born on Feb. 25, 1933, to Ole and Alma (Johnson) Morstad in Hartland. She graduated from Freeborn High School and attended two years at Mankato Business School. Janice has worked in the secretarial capacity for 40 years for the meat packing plant in Albert Lea, formerly Wilson & Co., surviving two long strikes and a shutdown of nine months due to bankruptcy. During the ’60s and ’70s, Janice took many trips with friends, including a two-week tour of Germany, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and London, also trips to Hawaii and Florida. After purchasing her home in Albert Lea in 1979, her trips became less frequent. Janice was a member of Cross of Glory Church and was very active in the WELCA, church choir and many other church functions. She was also a member of the Wilson’s choir. Janice was an avid Twins fan and was proud to have been able to attend a game in the new stadium. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing golf, sewing for her family and walked everywhere she needed to go. Spending time with her family especially at holidays was her greatest joy.

Survivors include her brother, Orvin and wife Betty Morstad, of Hartland; nieces and nephews, Gene and wife Linda Pederson, of Hartland; Jerry and wife Jill Morstad, of Albert Lea; Alvin and wife Cindy Morstad, of Hartland; Corrine Morstad, of Rochester; and Carrie and husband Bret Kitner, of New Prague; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Arlene Severson.
