ROCHESTER — The Austin boys track and field team finished ninth at the Big Nine meet at Rochester Mayo Friday.

Austin senior Caleb Bentley hit a career-best height of 12 feet, 1-inch as he took third in the pole vault, and a lot of Austin runners hit season best marks

“We ran well, but it’s a tough conference,” Austin head coach Tony Einertson said.

The Packers missed out on a few points as junior hurdler Omot Okello sat out of the meet with a quad injury.

“He’s one of the best hurdlers in the Big Nine, but we wanted to rest him for sections,” Einertson said. “He warmed up and he couldn’t turn it over. We want to give him the best chance to be able to compete next Thursday (at sections).”

Andrew Hagan took fifth in the shot put and eighth in discus and Jake Hagen-Erickson finished sixth in the long jump.
