Be aware that May is motorcycle awareness month

This morning at 11:45 while my wife and I were out riding our motorcycles, we had a gentleman decide that our speed of 25 miles per hour was not fast enough for him. He was driving a white Cadillac down by the community college and decided to pass both of us on the right hand side of our lane. Sir, remember that these are not bicycles they are extremely large powerful two-wheeled vehicles that pay the same road tax as your Cadillac. Mine is a 2008 Harley-Davidson ultra classic, which with me on it weighs close to 1,000 pounds, and my wife’s is a 2003 Harley-Davidson Heritage softail, which weighs close to 900 pounds with her on it. You probably would not consider passing a small car on the right in their lane, so I can’t understand why you would consider doing so with these motorcycles.

I would like to remind people who are out and about in their cars that we as motorcyclists are also out enjoying our favorite sport this time of year. Please give our vehicles the same kind of respect that you would give another motorist. We do try to watch out for you and your cars and all we ask is that you do the same.

To the motorcyclist that might be reading, this I would like to remind you to practice the S.E.E. tactics. Search ahead of you, evaluate the situation, execute your response to the situation.
