After struggling to come up with any hits in its season opener, the Hayfield baseball team found its bats in a sweep of Rochester Lourdes by scores of 10-6 and 9-8 in Rochester Tuesday.

The Vikings (2-2 overall, 2-2 Three Rivers) racked up seven extra base hits in the opening win as they led early in both contests.

“It was like night and day (from the opener),” Hayfield head coach Craig Selk said. “All we did last week was hit. The kids made adjustments and we hit the heck out of it tonight, which is very promising.”

The nightcap got a little close for comfort as Hayfield let a fly ball drop to score two runs and make it 9-8, while Lourdes had a runner on second with two outs.

Hayfield center fielder Dillon Wagner put the game away by making a shoe-string catch on a short fly ball.
