Candidate profile: Bryan Young, for county commissioner
One candidate for commissioner toyed with a run for state office, but settled on seeking a county post because it’s where he thought he could make the biggest difference.
Bryan Young, of Racine, filed to run in District 2 against incumbent Ray Tucker and Polly Glynn. Despite friends urging him to run for state office, Young, 29, said he thought he would have a bigger impact on the county board because he’d be closer to the people.
“I can serve, I can lead and I can help with vision, but I can do it at a local level,” he said.
The father of five — with a sixth on the way — said he’s trying to approach the campaign without a set agenda. Instead, he said he’ll look to the public.
“What’d I’d really like to do is get to know how my constituents feel here,” he said.
He said he’s heard people interested in helping small business owners and making the system more efficient.
Young, currently a stay-at-home dad, has previously worked as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
While Young said most people view commissioner as a part-time role, he said he’d work hard to put in the extra effort.
“I’m already looking forward to making it a full-time job,” he said.
Young doesn’t have specific plans yet, but said that should change soon.
“I really don’t have those answers yet, but in the next few months I’ll be working really hard to get those answers,” he said.
