A young prince seeks the secret of true happiness and fulfillment in Riverland Community College Theatre’s last production of the season, “Pippin,” which debuts Friday.
Sophomore Calder Pfeifer stars as the lead in this “musical fantasy,” director Jerry Girton said.
“The son of (King) Charlemagne wants true fulfillment in the world,” he explained. “He tries all kinds of things to make him happy.
“There’s a lot of interplay with the audience,” Girton said.
While Pippin searches for fulfillment through the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and political power, he finds that home and family are where true happiness lies.
A cast of about 20 will perform in this fairytale performance, with a pop-influenced score including “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky.” Stephen Schwartz, composer for the musical “Wicked,” also composed the music and lyrics for “Pippin.”
“Pippin” will be playing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Wednesday as well as April 30, May 1 and 2. There will also be a 2 p.m. performance this Sunday.
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at Coffee House on Main and the Riverland Box Office, open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before performances. Call 433-0595 to reserve tickets.
All seats are reserved. This play is recommended for ages 12 and over.
