The Southland baseball team shook off any possible rust as it beat Lewiston/Altura 11-1 in five innings in its home opener in Adams Monday.
The Rebels (6-0 overall, 6-0 Three Rivers), who hadn’t practiced or played outside since last Monday, came out strong as Alan May led off the game with a homerun.
Southland went on to score six runs in the first inning and May, who picked up the win on the mound, hit a second homer in the third inning.
“We hit the ball pretty well and I was pleased with how we played after such a long lay-off,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said.
