An Austin couple pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that they chased and beat up an Austin man who owed them money.
Willister and Tammy Davenport, 40 and 43, respectively, both pleaded not guilty to first-degree aggravated robbery, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault, all felonies.
The Davenports were arrested after they allegedly beat a man and tried to take his money. The alleged assault started when the Davenports saw the victim at Kwik Trip getting money from an ATM. The Davenports reportedly chased the victim with their vehicle while the victim was on a bike. The Davenports then allegedly ran the victim off the road and fought with him two separate times. The first time, a bystander came out of a nearby house and broke up the fight. However, the second time the victim fell, he caught his foot in his bicycle. The Davenports allegedly hit the victim in the face, kicked him in the chest and unsuccessfully tried to steal $400.
Police later arrested the Davenports at their home.
The Davenports’ have separate pretrials set for Sept. 6 and 21.
