As Father’s Day is celebrated, it is also a perfect time to celebrate all men and their health.
Because heart disease is the number-one cause of death for men, there are key nutrients that all men need to prevent heart disease, including omega-3 fats, monounsaturated fats (the good kind), fiber and antioxidants. Here are the seven best foods for men to incorporate those key nutrients:
Rustic Crust Pizza Crust: Ready-made pizza crust made with Ultra-Grain Hard White Whole Wheat providing four grams of fiber per slice. Great-tasting crusts for quick-to-make pizzas at home. The crusts also work nicely on the grill. Find them in the HealthMarket.
Smart Balance Spreadable Butter: A delicious, real butter and pure canola oil blend with 40 percent less saturated fat than butter. Made with an ingredient that helps block the cholesterol and has 20 percent of your daily value of heart-healthy omega-3s. It is so easy to spread, it works great for vegetables, potatoes, whole wheat bread and more.
Planters NUT-rition Nut Mixes: Excellent sources of protein to keep you feeling full longer. These nut mixes are perfect for on-the-go and contain a mixture of different types of nuts to keep things interesting. And don’t worry; the fat type is good for your heart.
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables: Men need a minimum five cups of fruits and vegetables daily to increase lifespan and lower the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Make sure to make half your plate healthy at each meal by incorporating a source of fruits and vegetables on half your plate. Using your plate is a great visual tool to keep you accountable. The more color the better.
Salmon Burgers: This burger is loaded with omega-3s that help your heart and brain health. Full of flavor, salmon burgers pair well with lots of veggies and a chipotle mayonnaise sauce for a little heat. Grill them up in minutes for a delicious meal.
AlFresco Chicken Sausage: With 70 percent less fat than traditional pork sausage, this sausage is made from chicken and has many flavors to choose from. Whether you are looking for sweet apple, sundried tomato or spinach feta, all are sure to please. You can find fully cooked sausages as well as breakfast sausages; both are heart-healthy choices.
