Ham radio operators to host 24-hour ‘broadcastathon’

Ham radio operators will put on a show in Austin this weekend.
A public demonstration of emergency communications will be presented by amateur — or “Ham” — radio operators for 24 continuous hours beginning at noon on June 23. The event is at the Mower County Historical Society Communication Building on the Mower County fairgrounds.
This is amateur radio’s annual field day event when hams across the country will communicate using voice, Morse code, and digital signals. The electrical power will come from batteries, AC/DC generators, solar panels and commercial power. Antennas atop the club’s 35-foot high tower are capable of sending and receiving signals across the U.S. and beyond.
The event is free and open to the public.
