Submission period to suggest name of new Austin school ends Saturday

If you’ve got a good name for the new fifth- and sixth-grade intermediate school, you’d better share it soon.

Residents can submit names to the Austin Public Schools web site through this Saturday, as the submission period wraps up at the end of this month.

Superintendent David Krenz said earlier this week the district has about 70 to 80 names thus far. A committee of eight to 10 residents made up of teachers, students, community members and businesspeople will look through the submissions and recommend several names to the school board at its Aug. 27 special session.

The board hopes to decide on a name for the new school by the end of the year.
