Tim Jones art inspired by natural, social worlds

Tim Jones is inspired by two things equally: the natural world and the social world of today.
According to Tim, incorporation, the process by which society becomes progressively more organized and integrated, occurs on the ground of nature, both within and without.
It is this interaction of nature and society that compels his artistic exploration.
An art faculty member at Riverland Community College since 2001, Tim works in a variety of media, using art materials themselves to suggest landscape settings through flow, sedimentation, accumulation, and through the use of techniques like folding and scraping, and employing forces like chance, erosion, gravity and air pressure.
Images of the American scene, including figures and symbols, are culled from his observations of their significance from both media and real life.
Tim seeks to provoke the observers thought regarding modern life through his artwork.
Some of Austin’s residents sometimes even appear in his work, as he pursues his contemporary exploration and interpretation of the American scene.
More of Tim’s work can be found on his website at tjvisualarts.org. Be sure to attend the Austin ArtWorks Festival on August 25 and 26 to see Tim’s works as well as all the artists featured in this Artist Spotlight.
