Joseph A. Sunderman, 85, of Austin, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, Minn.

Joe was born April 7, 1927, in Glidden, Wis., to Bernard and Pauline Sunderman. On Nov. 17, 1949, he was united in marriage to Grace Kreason in San Francisco, Calif.

Joe was a World War II veteran and a retired employee of the Austin Utilities. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Teri) Sunderman, Austin, Minn., Larry (Janet) Sunderman, Austin, Minn., Jerry (Karen) Sunderman, Marion, Iowa; six daughters: Peggy (Tom) Leonard, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bonnie (Dennis) Laug, Knoxville, Tenn., Mary Jo (Larry) Sutherland, Finland, Minn., Norma (Alan) Otto, Everly, Iowa, Linda Sunderman (Karen Wales), Rockaway, N.J., Paula Parker, Austin, Minn.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister: Mary White, Austin, Minn.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Sunderman; son, Roy Sunderman; brother, Larry Sunderman; grandson, Chase Miller.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Raul Silva officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Monday. Military rites to honor both Joe and Grace will be by American Legion Post No. 91.
