The driver who reportedly fled the scene of a crash Tuesday that killed a 7-year-old girl may not be charged for a month.

Worth County deputies identified Aaron Dwayne Gunderson, 31, Northwood, Iowa, as the driver of a pickup who struck and killed Kadyn J. Halverson as she was walking across the street to board a Northwood-Kensett school bus. Deputies apprehended Gunderson two miles from the scene, and he was taken into custody for questioning and released.

Local law enforcement sent evidence to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation crime lab for processing, according to the Iowa State Patrol. But the state trooper technical investigator may not have results for at least a month because of caseload issues. Any charges against Gunderson are pending those results.
