LYLE — A 30-year-old Lyle man faces charges in connection to apparent starvation of two dogs.

According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies went to a Lyle residence, where the dogs were found dead in a kennel near a pole building.

Autopsies were performed, and it was revealed the dogs were starved to death. The man remains in the jail, pending formal arraignment in court.

He was being held on unrelated charges, stemming from a probation violation and attempting to flee Austin Police Department officers, who were attempting to serve a warrant.

The dogs were described as young Labrador retriever breed animals.

According to the Sheriff’s Office report, neighbors reported the dogs’ condition three weeks ago. Sheriff officials said deputies checked on the dogs at that time to find the kennel was empty. The suspect apparently went to Texas without ensuring the animals would be fed.
