Jennie Marx became Lyle/Pacelli’s first state qualifier in girls golf since 2001 when she earned a trip to the Class ‘A’ meet in Red Wing Thursday.
Marx, a sophomore, hit a 47 on the front nine and finished with a 97 to tie for fourth place, putting her just inside the state cut.
Marx hit a long put on the sixth hole early on.
“That kind of got her going and it carried over,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said. “It was a great day and Jennie played well.”
In the boys team field, Blooming Prairie was third with a 355 and Southland was fourth with a 391.
In the girls team field, L/P took third with a 437 and BP took fourth with a 443.
No area boys qualified for state, but L/P senior Alex Brennan finished his career with an 88, after shooting a 40 on the front nine, where he shot two birdies.
Lewiston/Altura won the girls meet and Rushford/Peterson won the boys meet to get to the state meet, which will be held at Pebble Creek in Becker, Minn. June 15-June 17.
