Roasting hogs to learn about bugs

The Austin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will be having it’s first-ever hog roast fundraiser Wednesday, July 25.
It will be a local food celebration, highlighting organically raised pork, locally grown sweet corn and vegetable salads and local beverages.
For the 17th-straight year, proceeds from the Hog Roast will benefit the “Wetbugs Program,” an environmental program that takes place at Ellis Middle School and the Hormel Nature Center.
Students will learn about various aquatic insects and prepare for a field trip to the Nature Center. This year, Austin Chapter 10 will contribute $900, and the Austin Public Schools District will contribute $400 toward entemologist Dean Hanson’s presentations at the school.
The hog roast is open to the public, and tickets are $12, available at the door. There will also be a $100 door prize.
