Edward H. Kittelson

Edward Harlan Kittelson, 93, of Austin, Minn., died July 16, 2012, in Woodbury, Minn., from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Edward was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Austin, Minn., to Edward and Berthena Stemson Kittelson. He married Mabel Shaw Kittelson on Jan. 12, 1944. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was part of the 90th Division under Patton. He made the D-Day landing at Normandy and earned decorations and citations for fighting in the Ardennes, the Battle of the Bulge and the drive across Germany to Czechoslovakia.

Ed enjoyed family, fishing, traveling and after retiring, wintering in southern Texas. Later, he stayed active helping neighbors with yardwork both during summer and winter into his late 80s.

Ed is survived by his daughters: Marie (Douglas) Clarke, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and Helen Stoltenburg Cottage Grove, Minn.; his son: Dean Kittelson, Cottage Grove, Minn.; brother: Burton (Dorothy) Kittelson of Austin; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel; son-in-law, John Stoltenburg; and grandson, Eric Stoltenburg.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on July 21, 2012, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Karl Dalager officiating. Military rites will be performed by the VFW, and memorials are preferred to the Alzheimers Foundation of America. Twin City Cremation in St. Paul, Minn., is in charge of arrangements.
