A husky/German shepherd mix dog was shot and left for dead Monday later had to be euthanized.

According to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, the dog, approximately 6 years old, was found by a farmer along side County Road 7 in the ditch south of Adams at approximately 1 p.m. Monday.

The dog was shot once in the head, but was not dead, though it could only move its head and not its body.

A vet, who was coming to tend to cattle at the farmer’s residence, looked at the dog and then had to euthanize it.

No one has come forward to claim the dog.
