The county races are officially set, as filing closed at 5 p.m. yesterday.

In the final hours of filing, Brad Mcbeain and Deputy Auditor-Treasurer Kathy Grant both filed for county recorder Tuesday, joining Chief Deputy Recorder Jill Cordes in the race.

Grant has worked in the county for four years, and she previously worked for 28 years at Bissen TV & Appliance, which was owned by her brother.

“I just decided I was up for a new challenge and I’d run for county recorder,” Grant said.

Through her experience with the auditor-treasurer’s office, Grant said she has a knowledge of the documents and filing systems used in the recorder’s office. She also said she temporarily managed Bissen TV & Appliance and would bring that management skill to the role.

The race for commissioner District 3 grew to five Tuesday, as Jerry Reinartz filed, joining Loren Bellrichard, John Bramwell and Art Nelson in challenging incumbent David Hillier.

Tony Bennett is challenging incumbent Dick Lang in District 4. After defeating six other candidates in a special primary in January, Mike Ankeny is running unchallenged in District 5.

District 5 isn’t the only seat uncontested. No challengers filed against Auditor-Treasurer Doug Groh and County Attorney Kristen Nelsen.

In the race for sheriff, Sgt. Jeff Ellis, former handler of the police canine Tazer, is challenging incumbent Terese Amazi.

John Grass Jr. and Bill Sweetser are running for District 3 supervisor on the Soil and Water Conservation District board. William Lonergan is the only candidate running in District 4.
