They’ve done a bold thing and set an example. Recently, members of the Austin Public Schools administrative staff collectively decided to forego their raises (usually two to three percent) for the 2009/2010 year. The raises were already negotiated and were a done deal, so these professionals could have accepted them and walked away.

They didn’t.

They realized the dire economic situation we face on the local, state and national levels and know that our schools may have to make hard financial decisions in the near future.

These administrators have shown character and integrity in their actions, and we can all learn from their example.
