Fern M. Lickteig, 87, of Austin, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

Fern was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Bowdon, N.D. to Ernest W. and Martha (Brown) Murphy. On Nov. 9, 1946, she married James E. Lickteig in Austin, Minn. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1984.

Fern was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salvation Army and SFO Third Order of St. Francis. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery, collecting and restoring dolls, and she was an animal lover — dogs, cats and birds.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Waller, Winifred (Ronald) Ferguson, Karen (Maynard) Majerus; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Clara Murphy, June (Murphy) Bowman, Rita Lickteig, Rena Lickteig, Thomasine Farnsworth; many nieces and nephews including, Lois Goodnature.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald, Ernest and Warren; sister, Dorothy Estes.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The honorary casket bearer will be Matt Koopman. The casket bearers will be Jason Ferguson, Bernard Waller, Brian Waller, Betsy Moriarty, Kevin Moriarty and Mark Goodnature.
