WATERVILLE — You would think that having played three games in four days and with number four in five days coming tonight in the Blossom’s season finale’ that maybe the Black and White of BP might be getting a little tired?

To the contrary, there was no lack of hustle as the boys didn’t only beat a strong Waterville-Elysian-Morristown team, they brought the hammer down as they secured their spot for a second place tie in the Gopher Valley Conference by winning 58-35 Monday.

Matt Zellmer and Company ran the ball, stole the ball, rebounded the ball and just flat out played great ball as the Awesome Blossoms (18-5 overall) got due revenge on W-E-M (15-9 overall).

The Blossoms held an 18-point lead in the second half of the game as the two teams meet for the first time this year to see that lead crumble and were taken into over-time to lose to the Bucs.

The Blossoms took a 29- 9 lead into the locker room to see the lead cut very quickly to seven before getting the defensive machine back on track and re-establishing their game.

“Defensively we did really well,” BP head coach Jon Bruns said. “We handled the point guards well and we only had five ball handling turnovers in the game.”

The Blossoms smothered the boards as Cooper Nelson, Zellmer and Josh Toquam combined for 25 rebounds.

“The boys moved the floor great tonight,” Bruns said, “Austin Moe had six assists with Zellmer following with five.”

Zellmer lead the way in shooting as usual with 16 points, 14 of which came in the first half.

Senior center Josh Johnson put up 10 points followed by Josh Toquam with nine and junior guard Justen Ingvalson with eight as Moe, Robert Hofius, Aaron Krejci and Nelson combined for the remaining balance of 15 points on the night.

“This was an important game for us,” Bruns said, “As is tomorrow’s contest as we need these games to get some of players in place as we are going to be missing Israel.”

Israel Clark is the Blossom’s guard who was back from a year long rehabilitation of his knee after injuring it in the ’07 season opener of football with the Blossoms.

Clark re-injured the knee on Saturday in the Blossoms loss to Faribault BA and is out for the rest of season.

The Awesome Blossoms ended their Gopher Valley Conference play against W-E-M  and with the win put themselves in a two way tie with Mankato Loyola for second place in the conference.

Blooming will start their play-off run next Tuesday at home against the Hayfield Vikings (5-20 overall).
