The Salvation Army Austin Corps’ Tammy Flicek has a good idea. It is helping someone else’s good idea with another good idea of her own to make the Lenten season more meaningful.
It starts with soup.
There is “Good Friday” and there is also “Feel Good Friday.”
Flicek, Salvation Army volunteer coordinator, has organized a soup luncheon fundraiser for the Salvation Army Austin Corps.
The February soup luncheon attracted 50 carry-out orders and Flicek expects more in March.
Serving will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Salvation Army community center dining hall.
All tickets are $7 each.
People can dine in or order a carryout.
The March 6 menu will include cheese broccoli or vegetable beef soup with crackers and French bread rounds, plus pie.
Orders may be faxed to 437-1120 or phoned to 437-4566.
The deadline for orders is March 4.
The Salvation Army Austin Corps community center is located at 409 First Ave. N.E.
Flicek hopes to hold the monthly soup luncheon fundraisers through July.
Arc roses
Flicek is also assisting Dawn Helgeson, executive director, Mower County Arc in the organization’s 14th annual rose sale fundraiser.
Orders will be taken through March 25. The roses will be delivered by Arc and Salvation Army volunteers April 14.
Prices include $17 per dozen red roses, $23 per dozen red roses with vase, $19 per dozen lollipop roses and $25 per dozen lollipop roses with vase.
There will be a $2 charge on all deliveries.
Proceeds from the annual rose sale help Mower County arc serve clients with special needs and their families.
Cadet brigade
Flicek also announced the “2009 Giving Our Best To God” campaign March 17-22.
The “One King, One Kingdom” cadet brigade outreach campaign will hold special events each day, March 17-22.
