A fire in Waltham Monday destroyed a shed and everything inside but left no one injured.
The fire at 30524 600th Ave. was first reported to Mower County authorities at around 5:30 p.m. Property owner Vernon Clifford Deraad, 72, and his wife called it in.
Vernon Deraad was able to retrieve a tractor from the 50-foot by 25-foot metal shed before the flames got too big, but a boat, farm equipment, a number of tools and a horse trailer were all lost. The damage estimate is at several thousand dollars, according to the Mower County Sheriff’s Department.
Firefighters from Hayfield and Brownsdale had the blaze extinguished within about two hours, according to a sheriff’s department report. At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
