August raises awareness about immunizations

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and Mower County Health and Human Services is reminding people to check the immunization status of all family members.
Being immunized against pertussis is particularly important this year, according to the organization. There is a high level of pertusssis in Minnesota with outbreaks in Albert Lea and Rochester. Vaccination is critical for controlling the disease and protecting infants who are too young to be immunized.
Immunizations are available from your health care provider or from Mower County Health and Human Services. Mower County Health and Human Services holds weekly immunization clinics every Friday from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. All clinics are held at the office located on the south side of Oak Park Mall. Beginning in October 2012 immunization clinics will be changed to every Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
For questions, please call your health care provider or Mower County Health and Human Services at 437-9701.
