Mariel Mae Faber, 90, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.

Mariel was born May 23, 1922, in Wykoff, Minn., to Phillip and Mary (Horstmann) Rappe. She was confirmed in 1936 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She was one of five siblings growing up in Austin and Minneapolis. She graduated from Austin High School in 1940.

On July 29, 1940, Mariel married Harold Faber. To this marriage four children were born: Jerry, Larry, Dianne and Cindi.

Mariel was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and going for walks. She was an outstanding cook and was especially known for her cakes and pies. In later years, as her eyesight diminished, she enjoyed audio books. She often referred to audio books as being able to read with her ears. Mariel enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was included in all their activities from dance recitals to weddings. She cherished every minute she spent with them and they cherished their grandma.

Mariel was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by sons, Jerry (Kay) of Alexandria, Minn., Larry (Gayle) of Austin, Minn.; daughters, Dianne (Terry) Barnett of Austin and Cindi D’Ambrosio of Westwood, N.J.; along with grandchildren, Chris, David and Paula Faber, Tim (Kristy) and Matt (Dani) Faber, Erinn (Greg) Becker, Emily (Chris) McKeever, and Cady, Christina, Nicole and Michael D’Ambrosio. Mariel is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Marian Matthews.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and PCAs of the Patient Care Unit-Domitilla 6B, St. Marys Hospital, along with Chaplains Allison Cobb and Megan Remtema. They were Mariel’s angels on earth with their professional care and compassion. Also thank you to her neighbors and Julie, Shirley, Char and Jeanie for their care and friendship.

Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour before the service on Monday morning. Funeral services with be held Monday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Stohlmann officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
