Locals veterans, from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan, will gather this weekend for a giant barbecue.
All men and women and families who served their country, through all eras, in all branches of service, are invited to enjoy a feast honoring all veterans from around the region 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at Swensrud Park in Northwood, Iowa. Swensrud Park is located directly behind the business district on Main Street of Northwood and along the river.
The event features fresh-picked sweet corn cooked by an antique steam tractor, served with grilled burgers, brats, sloppy Joes and lemonade. Appetizers, salads, fruits, side dishes, or desserts to share are appreciated. Lawn chairs are recommended.
Besides the feast, there will be a silent auction, patriotic merchandise fundraiser, entertainment by Darrel Amundson, Larry Weberg & Walking Eagle Band and door prizes.
The ninth annual event is hosted by Chapter 790 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. For more info, contact Jerry or Linda Parmley at 641-293-5131.
