Darlene Addie Braaten, age 82, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

Darlene was born on Sept. 8, 1929, in Hope, N.D., to Ernest and Alvina (Stienke) Kirkpatrick. She attended school in Elkton. She was married to Orlean Braaten. They later divorced.

In addition to helping on the farm, Darlene worked at Hormel for over 30 years. She also owned and operated the B&E Restaurant for 10 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband Orlean and daughter Judith Kaye.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: David and Cathy Braaten, Dexter, Minn.; Dean & Mary Beth Braaten, Grand Meadow, Minn.; daughter: Jane Braaten Barnes, Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Angie, Amy, Jessica, Adam, Seth, Luke, and Noah; great grandchildren: Brody, Gavin, and Paisley; brother: LeRoy Kirkpatrick, Dexter, Minn.; sister: LaVon Pavek, Rochester, Minn., sisters-in-law: Joyce Braaten, Austin, Minn.; Verna Braaten, Austin, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
