The road closure blocking traffic on 14th Street NW will likely continue until Sept. 14.

Construction on the two-month project will take a week longer than predicted, according to Assistant City Engineer Steven Lang.

“There’s a lot of work out there that’s yet to be done,” he said. “Currently we’re raising manholes, installing new street light bases and preparing the surfaces for a final lift of asphalt.”

That final lift should take place during the middle of next week, followed by striping work and removing traffic barriers. Follow-up work, like installing the new street lights, can take place after the street reopens.

“We want to get it open as soon as possible,” Lang said.
