After assaulting a pregnant woman in February 2011, an Austin man was arrested on a probation violation and sentenced to jail time.
Austin police arrested Derek Eugene Jarvis, 22, on Sept. 4 on a warrant, and Jarvis was resentenced Thursday to one year in Mower County jail on the gross misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
According to the police report, Jarvis shoved the woman, but the woman defended herself and hit Jarvis in the face. As she tried to escape, Jarvis shoved the woman, who was six months pregnant, into a door frame. The victim briefly escaped and was again shoved into a garage door before getting to the apartment offices and calling 911. Jarvis left the area; however, police later found him back at the same apartment. Jarvis admitted that he snuck back into the home while the victim was at work but denied assaulting her. Police also noticed broken glass and shards of wood on the floor in the apartment.
