DOVER — The Southland football team overcame a sluggish first half to beat Dover-Eyota (0-2 overall) 35-14 on the road Friday.
The game was tied at 14 after the half due to an interception that DE ran back to the 15-yard line and a deep pass by DE at the end of the half.
“We had two mistakes that cost us in the first half,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “I told our guys they have to have a short memory and play better in the second half.”
Southland stepped up on defense in the second half as DE finished with just 130 total yards of offense.
“I was really impressed with how they played in the second half,” Kennedy said. “They turned the switch on and went after it.”
Nick Schmitz ran for 119 yards and three TDs for the Rebels.
Southland passing: Decker Bendtsen, 4-for-11, 40, TD, INT
Southland receiving: Alex Ruechel, 4-for-40, TD
