The Austin bowling team opened its season with a loss to Stewartville and a win over Hayfield in Recreation Lanes in Rochester Saturday.

The Packers, who won the West Division of the Southeast Conference last season, won three out of five games and against Hayfield and took just one out of five games against Stewartville.

Kody Phillips was perfect on fills on the day as he finished 29-for-29.

“First-game jitters and problems adjusting to lane conditions contributed to the Austin defeat (against Stewartville),” Austin head coach Jim Juenger said. “In the second match, Austin adjusted to some tricky lane conditions and came away with a victory over a good Hayfield team.”
