ALBERT LEA — Residents awarded aid for debris removal from the June 2010 tornadoes will receive unexpected additional funds this week or next, according to Freeborn County Administrator John Kluever.
Kluever said there is still $147,000 in unspent funds that the county received through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development after the June 17, 2010, tornadoes.
The funds will be redistributed to the 79 families who applied for and were approved for funding by an initial deadline in 2010. Adding up the new funding with the previous money received, the residents will now be receiving about 93 percent of their total requests for debris cleanup.
Only residents who received damage between June 17 and June 26, 2010, were eligible.
Residents were required to have insurance and a letter from their insurance agency stating their policy did not cover all or part of the cost of debris removal.
Freeborn County received more than $590,000 in total state money for debris removal.
Kluever said the checks with the additional funds should be mailed this week.
