LYLE — The Lyle-Pacelli football team showed what it’s capable of as it picked up its first win in two years under head coach Reid Olson on its homecoming night in Lyle Friday.

The Athletics racked up 239 rushing yards as they beat Lanesboro (3-2 overall, 3-2 SEC) 50-44.

LP (1-4 overall, 1-4 SEC) scored just 40 points in its first four games this season before posting 50 on Friday.

“We played with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm,” Olson said. “I’m so proud of our effort and everybody that’s associated with the program.”

LP was trailing 44-42 when Garrett Lester broke off a 55-yard run for a score with two minutes and fifty-three seconds left in the game and the LP defense stopped the Burros on their final drive.

Lester, who ran for 139 yards and three scores, also had an 84-yard kickoff return for a TD that made it 30-24 Lanesboro in the third quarter.

LP tied the game at 36 when Sean Shapiro scored on a 20-yard run.
