A local changed three of four pleas to guilty Friday in Mower County Court in a July drug bust and assault case.

Jonathan William Talamantes, 25, of Austin, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree drug possession, fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, both felonies, and gross misdemeanor obstruction of legal process. Fifth-degree assault with two or more convictions, a felony, was dismissed.

Police went to the 400 block of 27th Street SW on July 24 to find Talamantes. Talamantes saw officers and ran in the back door of a building. Police entered the home and found Talamantes hiding in a closet. Talamantes reportedly hid something in his mouth and ran to get water. Talamantes refused to put his hands behind his back twice and was then shocked with a taser, which was unsuccessful.

Talamantes became aggressive and swung at the officers, so they shocked him again, this time successfully. Talamantes reportedly continued to have violent mood swings.

Police found a marijuana blunt in the closet and two baggies, one of which contained traces of meth. Talamantes was arrested and taken to the Mower County jail.

Talamantes has previous convictions for domestic assault in May 2010 and fifth-degree domestic assault in January 2011. His sentencing is set for Dec. 13.
