Norman Jacobsen, age 94, of Freeborn, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Freeborn Congregational UCC in Freeborn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Norman E. Jacobsen was born June 24, 1918, in rural Freeborn to William and Abby (McClellan) Jacobsen. He graduated from Freeborn High School in 1936 and attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis for two years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Quade on Feb. 1, 1948, in Wells. Norman farmed and raised cattle in the Freeborn area. He was a member of the Freeborn County Cattlemen’s Association and was a member of the Freeborn Township Board for numerous years. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to coffee with friends in Freeborn and attending community meals, especially lutefisk.
Norman is survived by four children, William Jacobsen of Freeborn, Mary (Dennis) Rollenhagen of Wells, Randy (Mary) Jacobsen of Loganville, Ga., and Rick (Julie) Jacobsen of Akron, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Erik Jacobsen and Travis (Jamie Modene) Jacobsen and their son, Aiden; Pat (Nicole) Rollenhagen, Wyatt, Trevor and Kallie Rollenhagen; Cory, Jay, Andy and Dan Jacobsen; Aubry (Wyn) Hall, Autumn, Lindsey and Kalyn Jacobsen; and sisters-in-law Olga Jacobsen, Sandy Jacobsen, Marcella Erickson, and Margaret (Bill) Hungerford; and numerous nieces and nephews along with their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; siblings, Alma (Ernie) Sorenson, R. Elton Jacobsen, Loetta (Hilbert) Boyer, Orliss “Bud” Jacobsen, Wallace Jacobsen and Iris (Bruce) Caldwell; sisters-in-law Irene (Norman) Babcock, Marie (Earl) Hansen, and brother-in-law Orvis Erickson.
