The board will also hear a report from Underwood concerning a potential Paramount Theatre expansion. Underwood said the Parks and Recreation office, located directly west of the Paramount on Fourth Avenue NE, was not scheduled to move any time soon.
“In a perfect world, with Vision 2020’s help and [when a new] rec center is done, our office [could move], but before that, we really don’t have a spot to go to,” Underwood said.
Earlier this year, Paramount officials commissioned architects Miller Dunwiddie and theater design consultants Schuler Shook to design a potential expansion. Architects came to Austin last week to interview Paramount donors, Austin Area Commission for the Arts directors and members of Austin’s arts community. Miller Dunwiddie and Schuler Shook representatives unveiled two potential schematics to the public Friday to give residents a sense of what an expansion could look like. Both possible schematics focused on expanding west and north of the Paramount, but each plan was a rough, potential design.
Architects will finalize a proposal to give to the AACA Board of Directors, who will ultimately decide where to expand.
