The Salvation Army plans to focus most of its energy this December on the annual kettle drive that kicked off Thursday, meaning many of the regular events at the worship center will be put on hold for the month.

“We’re actually going to stop everything for the kettles,” said the Salvation Army’s Lt. David Amick.

But that doesn’t mean activities are over for November. Apart from its normal community meals held Monday through Thursday, the worship center still has its Thanksgiving basket distribution coming up on Monday. People can pick up the 239 baskets of food prepared for them, Amick said.

On Thursday, during the Thanksgiving holiday itself, the Salvation Army will serve lunch.

When most other activities stop during December, the Salvation Army will continue its Monday men’s study as well as its weekly worships at 11 a.m. Sunday.

“We’re small, but we’re growing,” he said.

At the beginning of next year, the worship center will resume with its weekly activities, which include Wednesday Bible studies from 6 to 7 p.m. and Thursday Gospel arts nights from 6 to 7 p.m. There’s also an activity similar to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts called Adventure Corps.
